Mary Larson- Lay Assistant to the Senior Pastor

On June 6 through 8, 2008 4 voting delegates and 7 visitors from our church joined a total of 461 persons from churches all over New York State who attended the Annual Meeting. The meeting was held at Silver Bay YMCA of the Adirondacks which is on the shore of Lake George. The program included worship, early morning bible study for those persons who could rise early enough to get there!, fellowship, musical entertainment, featured speakers, workshops, resolutions and reports from the various instrumentalities of the New York Conference. Aside from the various events the meeting gave us the opportunity to share experiences with many members of churches in New York State to express our many common issues and hear of their experiences with them. It offers a unique opportunity to discover common values and church and life experiences with our brothers and sisters in Christ and to share worship and fellowship and entertainment with them. There are a lot of things happening locally and nationally with our Open and Affirming groups. 

Locally, Mt. Sinai Congregational, United Church of Christ took part in the Huntington Gay Pride Parade on June 8th. Our church members that marched had a lot of fun. The banner the group (and others in the church) made was a big hit! Thanks to all who helped to work on the banner and look for the banner at our next parade.

The Micah Project works to end hunger on Long Island. Recently (June 1-June 8) two twin brothers ran the length of Long Island in seven days to raise awareness and funds for poor, hungry Long Islanders. Please click here to find out more information on the run.
